Honestly I wouldn't understand why anyone would watch 25 minutes of a flythrough without any commentary or anything if they could just play the maps. it will be cut down for CE3. Edited by MatthewDratt on May 5, 2011 at 03:54 PM

Hmm, true. I just never made a video before, and I just thought a fly-through with some good music would be nice.
That, and the fact that it takes my stupid-slow (and old) computer like five HOURS to save a 25 minute long video is another reason why I don't really want to go back and redo it again >..<)

So...what you're saying is that I should give one minute of video for each of the five maps in the Map Pack...? :/

Giving a min per map isn't really going to give the viewer that much to go on while deciding whether to dl the Map Pack or not :x
But like I said, I'll see what I can do. After all, the deadline isn't for another two months ^_^

But like I said, I'll see what I can do. After all, the deadline isn't for another two months ^_^ Well, not exactly. Your presentation needs to be exciting while showing off vital and intresting points of the map, and gameplay. By doing this, it catches the players attention, hence more downloads for you. A minute per map is great. This is a trailer my friend ki11a made a while back for one of my maps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae8vReuZN10while it was only 3 minutes long, it really only showed gameplay and the potential the map had. You can do that in much, much less.

I remember that map, it was awesome :D
Now if only I had a decent computer so that I won't have to drop my resolution to crap, and have my graphics on low just to capture a video...
I'd also like to shoot a gameplay video, but only a small amount of people have downloaded the Map Pack, and even fewer play it :|
Want to help me with that? I wouldn't mind having low res and lower graphics if I can get a few minutes of gameplay video going on :3

If no ones playing it, you either aren't publicly showing it off enough, or rather, did not make the maps themselves appealing. The trailer made for Peril was a private beta test, you may want to do the same.

I already made the download link public, so anyone can download and play at will. I was also planning on using YouTube to boost the views the Map Pack might get, but as I said before, YouTube only accepts (maximum) 15 minute long videos.
I also just had a look at how many people downloaded the Map Pack, just 32. If I can get a few of those 32 people into one game so I can shoot a few vids, that would be awesome. Dedi, if possible - I don't want everyone to lag because of my computer when I'm hosting >.<

Thats a sign that you should rethink your map decisions and possibly restart working on them. If I remember correctly, all of the maps were mods, which is quite frankly looked down upon most of the time when it comes to multiplayer maps.

I thought that was because most of the multiplayer mods out there are BG mods :p
I actually went out of my way to find a proper place where it takes skill and sneaky-ness to come out on top.
AoTCR, for one, was quite hard to mod because on one end, you have a fortress base, and on the other, a nearly open base, easy to strike. This is why I put a crashed Pelican and a mini-base at the far end, along with giving Reds the vast majority of vehicles to support their defense.
b40-arena was another difficult map to mod. As a CQC map, there weren't many places for players to hide/camp as grenades can easily flush them out. You would actually have to go out of your way to hide, and at times, that can be very risky. I think I balanced the weapon layout fairly well and there are several medkits scattered around the map along with a few Bubble Shields here and there. Shotguns, Flamethrowers and the only Sword dominate this map, which is why I limited their spawn points.
Cartographer was an inspired mod, as I wanted to provide a CQC-type map with the balance of mid-long range battles. On the middle tiers, you have Slayer, KoTH and Oddball, and a perfect arena for mass carnage. On the upper tiers, you have CTF, a very nice area to be ninja in. On the bottom tier, you have Race, a rarely-used gametype, but with a nice balance for gameplay. I think I drew some of my inspiration from The_Library mod that I had released to HaloMaps a few months back.
Conflict was probably THE hardest map that I had to mod. Originally, it was going to be a d20 conversion, but it was far too dark and large - while being cramped at the same time - for me to modify properly. I ended up going for a c10 mod instead because I was looking to mod more CQC maps. I probably spent close to three days wandering around that level, pondering what part of that level to mod. It was when I reached the end of the level that I finally got inspiration - create a level where there would be confusion and stealth and have one character floating around, talking to himself. That's where 343GS came in.
Whiteout was on my mod list for a LONG time. After playing the original map (in which I completely forgot who the original map maker was), I wanted to make that level better. And so it stayed on my palatte for the past two-and-a-half years until recently, when I decided to bring it back. Fairly balanced, with several ways to get to the opposing base, this was the funnest (is that a word?) map to mod. You can drive, walk through the tunnels, fly over the mountains, or hike over them instead to get to the enemy base. KoTH and Oddball take these into effect, and so there is a hill and ball spawn on top of the mountain, where players can either fly or hike to.
...and now I'm wondering why I didn't add that commentary to the video, it makes a good read/listen.

Well, it doesn't look like I have much time, pretty concentrated on school, finals coming up in a few weeks, starting to study. Can't use my computer much, but I might be able to squeeze out some gameplay. If I don't attend CE3, it's not the end of the world, my topic is probably kind of boring compared to some stuff. So Slowbullet and MatthewDratt you guys have about 25~26 days remaining until the event. Since I do like the concept of this event I think I should be open and post my concerns here. Currently my impression is that you guys need to put a bit more effort in showing your work and enthusiasm. So here are my following remarks. The website is broken http://haloce32011.isgreat.org/You have about 6 twitter tweets in total. With an average of 1 per month. The 1st post of this topic is horribly organised and screams for structure. Your last update on Youtube was from Feb 5, 2011. No rule/format has been given on the video quality meaning anything goes from super poor up to full HD. This will become a problem when you start rendering it all together. Also no time frame has been given for the video length, just "not too long", not too long is subjective. No one wants to see their trailer cut so be specific. You guys had about a year to prepare, what's going on and why does it seem like you're not supporting/enthusiastic about your own project? Just being honest here regarding the project, nothing personal.
