Right click the gmax shortcut and type in " -H" (no quotes) at the end of it. Then start it and it will prompt you to select which 3D driver you want to use (OpenGL, Direct3D, ect). Then just select one till it works. Once it works take out the -H command line so you don't have to select a driver every time you open it.
