Normally I simply release my tags with the map, but the tags in the map I'm working on are working for the purposes of my map but little else, and I don't want to see them end up in any random maps until I can call them 100% done. I know there are ways to protect tags from being ripped but I've never found out what these are.
If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

In today's ripper-saturated player base, I don't know if it's possible to truly protect tags, even with HEK+ and the read only option checked. People will just use other programs to unprotect the maps again.

According to the Kornman00 himself, and SteelixB, tag protection using HEK+ is completely irreversible as it destorys the tag group information and all structure. You could still get the tags but there is no plausible way to organize or use any of it.

Open the map in HEK+. Under Tools (or some menu up there), it should have the optioin to protect the map. Once you do, all tags will be named [protectd]. (I can't use the >'s because it erases what I say in the post...) Edited by MoooseGuy on Nov 1, 2010 at 08:25 AM

Thanks, I don't remember seeing that option but that's probably because I haven't used the HEK+ in about 2 years. I will try it as soon as I get the map done.(Just wanted to find out now so that's one less of the 100+ problems I have to deal with right now)

WHat kind of tags are you using in your map that you are in need of protecting for?

A special marine biped that I am protecting because it works fine for the map but can run into some issues in other situations outside of this map(Mostly animations), some devices that I put weeks of effort into getting them working properly,(only spent five minutes on the models) and two or three guns that I would prefer to stay secret for the map.(one would also be game breaking outside single player)
However after the map is done, I do plan to release "most" of the tags that are protected.

Sounds cool. I just wish someone released a tool to protect maps better than HEK+ does...

That and I'm tired of seeing ripped tags being posted by people who didn't make them.
Also, I'm starting to think we are the only two people checking the forums this morning.
