While I do hear AVG has good virus scanning software, I can say that it's real-time protection is horrid. I help people with computers all the time who have virus problems on their computers with AVG on them simply because they hadn't scanned recently.
If you want a virus protection that detects a virus in a file before it is even barely started downloading, you want Avast. A great combo to go with that, I have found, is also MalewareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware.

Be warned however, Avast +AVG all on one computer + death. You would have to make a choice.

How does avast give false positives? I'll just say I've had 1 virus in 2 years and I just recently got that and removed it rather quickly.

Norton invades your computer, you have no control over what it does, such as forcing restart, popping windows in your face, and deleting or preventing the opening of items that you want to use. Oh, and asking about a buch of stuff: do you want to do this, are you sure?
