First off, Yes, Dennis, This is another Reach thread. I refuse to go post in the other one because it is littered with spoilers and I've yet to play the game. (Re: Broken Xbox) That said, No spoilers in this thread, please.
I was in no hurry to open Reach, as my Xbox has been broken since just before it came out, but I did today. I have to say, after getting the statue together and opening up the "black box", that I am really happy with it. :)
I'm a person who enjoys the story ten times as much as the multiplayer, or building my own map. (I wouldn't play the Halo 3 campaign online or with anyone else until I was sure I had explored every nook and cranny of it.) The Legendary edition really had a feel to it.. The (I'm about to tell you contents of the black box- Don't read the next 2 sentences if you don't want to know.) Journal made me think "Wow.. It would be cool if I actually owned something like this." While I was holding it in my hands.. Clearly it's owner. The stuff that is in there is so closely tied to the game, it made me feel like I'd jumped into the game and taken it back with me. I read this on another website, but "just opening it is like your being told a story."
I really think it was worth it to go and get the Legendary edition.. I plan on keeping the crate as a sort of "pedestal" for the statue, which itself is (despite opposing claims) fairly well made, as well as great looking. The Black Box in the Legendary Edition also has a much nicer look to it, as opposed to the Limited Edition version.
I realize not everyone will have gotten the same feelings I did from the unboxing and looking through the contents.. Halo was my first real computer game, (First game, if you don't count Super Mario world.) so it's special to me. Did anyone else enjoy the whole process as much as I did?
And to think, I haven't even played the game yet.
