What are the limitations? Because they're only used in novelty maps, but they seem to work fine.

destructable vehicles don't sync in multiplayer. that is, you may see a destroyed hog, but the other guy playing with you would see the hog as perfectly fine, thus causing gameplay issues.

Ok, but I thought I heard something else about problems with collisions, and vehicle respawning.

It's been done a lot. As for MP vehicles, the problem is that the permutations for the vehicles don't sync.
