When I play Halo custom edition my graphics look like Nintendo 64 graphics and I've seen other videos on youtube like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQSC-qkicac which look way better than mine can someone help?

You're probably just going over the top about your graphics being worse than that of others. Post a screeny of your graphics.

And that video you posted is a modded map by POQ. It has enhanced graphics in the mod. It isn't normal Blood Gulch. ;)

Lol, it looks better than it should pixelwise. You just need to change the screen contrast a bit to stop it being so dark.

I see no difference.

You prolly need a new driver. Check the Nvidia site. Don't worry, their latest driver works fine with Halo. I have an Nvidia card too. ;)

You're running Halo in Safe Mode. The first time you boot HCE, did you receive a message that your video card was not totally supported? There was an option to boot in Safe Mode, which you probably chose. Boot it normally and see how it is.

No I've never used it in safemode. Whats the difference?

This might help you, this might not. In this video I went and tried to replicate your graphics and turn back. In your video I noticed that you don't have specular or shadows on. That might be safe mode turned on or your graphics and video card is just..gay.

I run on some outdated card and it works fairly great for the most part. Although it has aged and lost some of it's zip...

I use an nVidia geForce 9800 GTX I think... Anything before that is crap... Anything after that is pretty good, and the first few after that shouldn't be too expensive... I'd have to check.

I go to http://www.newegg.com/

On there, the 9800's go from $89 to $120 or so... Although, a lot of the performance is based on memory, so it's best to get a GTX.


Oh, and also, what is your current card? Is it just what your computer came with? If so, then you should just buy a new one. If you've bought one before, then go to your card's website (nVidia, ATI, etc) and browse it for driver updates. It should assist you in finding out what you need.

Downloading drivers just updates them. Sometimes it adds new options, it pretty much always adds new features. Sometimes optimizations, sometimes just an overall software performance boost.

But you want to make sure its for the right card otherwise your computer will generally assume you just don't have drivers at all.

On a related note, what is the best way to fix the active camouflage glitch where on newer GPUs it doesn't distort? I used to have a fix, but after restarting my PC, it's settings reset and I don't remember them...

I have a 9400GT 1GB video card. I forgot when it came out though. I can play Halo 2, L4D2, and Halo. All at max settings. The only three games i cant play at max settings. Are GTA 4, Crysis, and Crysis warhead. Which are all are too resource intensive. I bought my card last august from bestbuy.

The driver? Depends if it works at all or not. If it works, yeah it might fix your problem. If it works but it doesn't fix your problem, you need a new card. If it doesn't work, you need to find a different driver.

This has been bugging me... Why do my teleporters look blurry, where as other people's teleporters seem more beam like, similar to a shader transparent plasma, but not...

Even this guy's seemed to be unblurred. My teleports are BLURRY :( I want the beam-like look. It's like this on all maps that use the default shader, including original maps.

Give this a go. I never tried it though. Just register.

I'm 100% sure the reason your graphics looks so bad is because of your video card, unless you upgrade your video card, your graphics are stuck like that.

I know this seems weird but i know this from personal experience because when i first got halo, i used to have some crappy 64mb nvidia card, and my graphics looked exactly like yours, i think i used to have the exact same card as you do but it was so long ago and i cant remember. Then after a while i upgraded to a 256mb card, the specular and shadow options became available and my graphics improved so much.

So its not your software or anything like that, but your hardware. Just buy a new, better graphics card, any graphics card that is 256mb will do.
