There's a nice model on Trepidation. It's a vehicle, take the model and make it a scenery?

Why would you need to turn it into a scenery? You could just get rid of the driver seat, so that it can't move. Plus, if it has seats in it, you could use them to add more realism.

I just want to place the ship high over a battlefield, with a minimal tag size.

I'd take the GBX model, and expand it to whatever size you want, then compile it as a scenery. I'm not sure the exact steps to it, but look up a scenery tutorial, shouldn't be too hard.
