i have had an issue similar to this. when you start up the game, do you see yellow numbers in one of the corners of the screen? if not, then you either have them turned off or fraps isnt picking up your game. if you do see the yellow numbers, they should turn red when you start recording. make sure your save directory is valid. normally when i play i set fraps to save to my external hard drive, but if its not plugged in then fraps wont record.
if youre on a desktop you should have a full keyboard. set your record button to numpad 1 or something like that. dont use alt codes or anything.
fraps is a very versatile program, and if i recall correctly, it will pick up any game that uses direct x or something like that. it does for a fact work with 3d emulators such as project 64 and dolphin, and i use it every time i play halo. i seriously doubt its an issue with the game

(deleted stuff) . . . fraps is a very versatile program, and if i recall correctly, it will pick up any game that uses direct x or something like that. it does for a fact work with 3d emulators such as project 64 and dolphin, and i use it every time i play halo. i seriously doubt its an issue with the game btw, have you tried using fraps at the same time as windows movie maker? it actually also displays those numbers in the preview window too (though it really doesn't make sense to record the preview window anyway lol) [/offtopicness] still, try updating your version of fraps, and if it still doesn't work, try Donut's idea.
