Hah, that's pretty much what the diagram says :P

I always figured that it stores all of the ammo crystals within the weapon itself, but it can't use all of it in its stored state or something. Kind of like a crystal seed, and then the gun grows it out, and reprocesses that to fire.

I always thought they put those large pink crystals (the ones you find beside the needlers on 343 GS) into the needler. From there, the crystal would be pushed upwards, cut into needles and protrude out the top, giving that classic 'crunch-shing' sound when you reload lol. I guess the crystal would be inserted slightly above the handle. I assume the bottom part of the needler would be the power supply to propel the shards forward and interface with user's hud. i think the needles are some sort of volatile radioactive crystal found on some planet haha

If it mattered the forum would auto lock the thread after a certain time of inactivity, so why not?

Needler ammunition is referred to a Blamite by Bungie employees.

As the ammunition in the original Halo is depicted as a giant pink crystal, I'm going to assume it's somehow inserted into the weapon, then melted and recrystallized into the shards we know and love.
