Deleate both the triangles, and create a new polygon. There is no difference except now both the faces will be able to be selected as one polygon instead of two.

create polygon always gives me edge errors. but yea, delete both and create new faces there.

its the 2nd story of the complex...
i was wondering, if i use that face as a floor for the second floor of the building, do i need it to have a face from above and below? in other words, should i make it to where i can see that face from ABOVE and BELOW it in the viewport?

A floor should be more the one face. That's an open edge so far.

yes, if i understand the question right. you'd have two planes, one facing down (ceiling) and one facing up (roof). same with multiple floors.
