Was wondering when i was downloading some maps the other day.


How are you supposed to give general feedback to the author, or request small changes/ relatively similar maps? If they don't leave an email in the text file, its pretty hard, right?


I suggest having adding comments thingy below the map description,or something like that. when 100 or so people comment (our of the thousands that download some maps), itll be easier for the author to see what the general public want, and provide it. Everytime i test a map, i think "Coool.... but'd it be nice if it was ___." Althoug the author does not have to do whatever I suggested, i'd be cool if he knew about it. That, and if I were a map maker, i'd be nice to see how many positive comments i'd get in such in such time. (ego boost!)

Of course, this would mean someone like dennis making sure there isn't any **** in the comments, but some automatic filters could help...

It may or may not be connected to the forum (use your username to leave comments) but probably should be open to the public without getting an account.

Look at YouTube, and see how well it's going over there.

But seriously, we should at least give it an attempt. And maps will filter out most of the people that give really bad comments on youtube. Think about it... Unlike movies, you can't just click "play" and watch it. You have to use a relatively high amount of effort setting up the mod, unzipping it and stuff. Still, MANY people do this, which gives us a relatively good responce, as well as having many comments without spam. Also, anybody can go watch movies and enjoy it, but with maps, only people who own haloce are interested. This pretty much guarentees a certain level (not expecially high, but nevertheless) of maturity in people who may comment.

To prevent spam, is it possible to use cookies so that only people who have at least downloaded the map, comment?

It's called a Forum.

And are all maps made by forum users? I doubt it. And would all map users use the forums?

Its more convient to leave comments instead of get a random password generated and sent to you via email before you can comment.

Unless it becomes a fad for the author to post a thread on the forums describing the map, and discussing it, and asking for comments, there won't be an efficent way to leave feedback. Even so, people who don't use the forums will be left out. Not to mention its rather redundent.

As of now, it seems as if the feedback from maps are near 0. Comments would change this drasticly.

A comment system is possible, it's just that Dennis does not think it's a good idea, as moderating it would be near impossible.

That's exactly it. If the author wants feedback, he makes a thread. Go back to the General Discussion forums, and take a look. The CMT SPV2 A10 Public Beta thread is an example.

He should have an Author's list. For people who have made a map, you liked, you can see other map's by the same author. This would be good for mappers like Arteen, and lots of others.

Seach: Arteen. Done.

But it dosn't really happen.....

A comment system would do the same thing for every map.

Also, If only the people who can comment are the ones who have downloaded the map, I'm guessing trolls will go to some easier spamming grounds, like yoututbe.

Your still missing the point. If they want comments, the option is available.

Whether they are too lazy to post on the forums or just dont care, I dont know, I dont care.

Yup! As of today there are 1,601 custom maps maps over 200 (total = 1,801) not counting the other 2,631 other maps and files and yes the reason there will never be comments on the maps pages is because moderating them is not something I want to do.

I was going to put that feature in just like it is on Halo Movies, however I found that with only a few exceptions authors change their pseudo name more than they change their underwear. Also the search feature works to find them much better since it will find soundex matches.

Yes it would: It would fill up the page with useless information added my half literate children and be used as a way to vent or spam the website. Youtube is the perfect example the information is useless and more often incorrect or unintelligible. I added a rating system but of course you and everyone disagree with it as well. I have a top 100 list that shows what maps have been downloaded the most and what maps are being played on servers the most. After all this information available on the website about the maps if you can’t make up your mind then just ask your friends what you should like. They will know what you should like better than some anonymous stranger.

This has been suggested many times before.

I think what he's getting at is that he wants a way to talk to the map's author about making adjustments to maps.

But it's like Scott said, if they want feedback on their map, they will post in the forum. If they don't post in the forum, then they either don't care about anyone's opinion or they don't want to make any changes to the map (or both). Either way, I vote a big fat NO for the comments system.

if you want to coment on the guys map look for his forum name and send him a pm.

Yeah but dennis, no offense the forum search sucks. Does anyone else remember the 30 min sp. I do, and was looking for it the other day to see if i could bump it and get the makers make on track. But i found nothing, until i widened my search parameters a lot. And I mean a lot.

The makers will bump it themselves if they have updates, or create a new thread. Bumping the thread for them won't really help in any way.
