You cannot run Tool.exe as a standalone batch program. You have to copy and paste cmd.exe from the system folder to your Halo Custom Edition root directory, and run that.

Otherwise, if you want to do it the tedious and annoying way, just click Run, type "cmd", and once command prompt opens, type "cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\", and then you're ready to type any tool commands...

Alright, try running cmd.exe in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP (SP2).

Also, Run As > Administrator...

Other than that, I wouldn't know what to do. I still run Windows XP right now, and I'm not upgrading my PC's OS until later this year -- and then, I'm going straight to 7.

Does the Halo CD need to be in the disk drive?

Nope. Doesn't need to be in the drive for anything to do with Halo CE anymore, if you've downloaded the recent 1.08 patch. Only thing it's needed for is installing the game...

I'm assuming from the topic that by "Tool for Vista", you're referring to Halo Custom Edition, and are just running on Vista's OS... Because, if you're talking about Halo 2 Vista, you're on the wrong board, and that's why I'm not helping you. xD

and btw if you want to get tool working go to cmd in rur HCE folder and type: tool and then it will work

If you had read all the posts in the topic, you'd know I already said that... But "cmd.exe" is not in your Halo CE root directory until you put it there manually.

The easiest and surefire way is to run cmd.exe from it's normal directory. In Vista, open the start menu, and type in cmd. Then, run cmd.exe as an administrator. Once it's open, type in:

cd C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Halo Custom Edition

Then, type in your tool command.

Then type your directory. If you installed in the folder C:/Halo Custom Edition, then you would type:

cd C:/Halo Custom Edition
