I know I can't use Sapien, so I went in and tried to find out what the problem is. I opened it up and checked the debug.txt after it (expectedly) crashed. Here's what it said:
02.25.09 18:43:22 sapien pc 01.00.00.0609 ---------------------------------------------- 02.25.09 18:43:22 reference function: _write_to_error_file 02.25.09 18:43:22 reference address: 401b13 02.25.09 18:43:22 Couldn't read map file './sapienbeta.map' 02.25.09 18:43:23 CreateDevice succeeded with refresh rate = 0 02.25.09 18:43:24 Sound card doesn't meet minimum hardware requirements. Disabling hardware option. 02.25.09 18:43:24 Increasing sound decompression buffer size to 1048576 bytes 02.25.09 18:44:14 DirectInput: 'Acquire (keyboard)' returned (DIERR_OTHERAPPHASPRIO#-2147024891) 02.25.09 18:44:14 EAX: 0xFDA3C908 02.25.09 18:44:14 EBX: 0x00009701 02.25.09 18:44:14 ECX: 0xFFFFFFFF 02.25.09 18:44:14 EDX: 0x00000B98 02.25.09 18:44:14 EDI: 0x0013F300 02.25.09 18:44:14 ESI: 0x00000000 02.25.09 18:44:14 EBP: 0x0013F1D8 02.25.09 18:44:14 ESP: 0x0013F1C8 02.25.09 18:44:14 EIP: 0x7C90EB94, C3 8D A4 24 ????? 02.25.09 18:44:14 EXCEPTION halt in \halopc\haloce\source\cseries\profile.c,#442: parent_timesection->self_msec >= child_timesection->elapsed_msec
It said something about my sound card, but I don't think that's the problem. (Maybe it is, I don't know. Halo runs perfectly fine with my sound card.) I have the HEK in my Halo CE folder, so the directory is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition and all the HEK files are in there. When I go and open Sapien (by double left clicking it) it opens, and this time I could see all the mini-windows like the Heirarchy view, but they were all blank and the program icons in the upper left corner were all the same white icon. (The one you get when a program isn't responding) Can someone tell me what the source of the problem is and the solution please? Thanks.

Does your computer have duo-core? If so, that's the problem. Open sapien, but don't open the file yet. Then open task manager and set the affinity to 1. Or if you do't like doing this every time, set the compatibility to windows 98. Many people get the sound card message, you can just ignore it, it does not effect it.

Edited by chrisk123999 on Feb 25, 2009 at 06:03 PM That's great, thanks! But I could only open the tutorial.map scenario, and there weren't any scenario files in any of the other default map folders. I tried using the scenario from a map that I had ripped it from (To experiment with in Sapien) but it gave me the same problem as before, even though the affinity was set to CPU 1. Any help there?

Posting in white text does not make it any easier to read what you said. But you probably forgot to rip everything.

I got that error once, yesterday. I was attempting to load Red Alert 3 while Sapien was running. When a game starts up, there's a "limbo" time, when the whole screens black, and you can see your mouse. That's where I was. When I went back to Sapien to save and close, it had that error written all over the screen. But Sapien didn't crash.

But Sapien didn't crash. maybe its becuse that red alert 3 uses other video settings which kills sapien DirectInput: 'Acquire (keyboard)' returned (DIERR_OTHERAPPHASPRIO#-2147024891) other app has prioity. it means that the keyboard is using another app Edited by black doom on Mar 1, 2009 at 10:41 AM

Vista is better then XP. It works perfectly for me. All you have to do is run sapien in windows 98 compatibility mode.

I prefer running in XP. Also, spending a lot of quality time with Vista has made it unbearable to touch the XP they run on school computers *shudders*
