make sure you use UVW Map to finish your bitmaps, if you dont' they will come out white if your lucky. Where do I press X, then? If you were referring to the streaky cliffs, I think I tried to get rid of them.

for your cliffs when you are in UVW Map change the setting to box (under Parameters) it is on planar by default. Box allows you to control length width and height. For the "Where do I press X" I meant "When" - Edit: Nevermind, I got my arrows back. I did manage to get the cliff textures moving, but I could not get the lines gone. I will try to mess with it more, however. I need Gmax tutorials Edited by Vlad on Nov 10, 2008 at 06:25 PMEdited by Vlad on Nov 10, 2008 at 06:33 PM

Most people do.
But Gmax was made by Autodesk, who also makes 3DS Max. They no longer support it, so its free. I don't know how most people get a hold of 3DS, thats a full grand. I don't even know where one could find a cracked copy of it. But lets not discuss that.
The point is that Gmax and 3DS Max have little differences.
The same complany made them, so they both pretty much do what you need them to. The default layout is pretty much unchanged, the controls just about the same. The only real difference is how much more 3DS does. And thats usually all the extra stuff we don't need. The both 3D model just about the same.
I havent looked at it, but that tutorial should suit you just fine, though "Its better" is a personal and selective opinion, regardless of weather or not its contents are methods or descriptions commonly found better.
End of all, that tutorial should work fine. if you have troubles, post them.
An alternative modler you might try is Blender. it too is free, and i nearly got the hang of it. But its very user friendly. there are many tutorials on how do use it, but just about none on using it for halo, so it is more for the intermediate modler, i suppose.

i forgot to mention, blender has tools to do things like smooth things, or round them. You can make a very fooling circle, that tool will accept, because its made out of Triangles... Its a subsurf modifier. But it does those kinds of things. It includes rendering, but it also has camera and lights, and that might be for rendering but i don't think that would make any sence with tool. i don't know. i have no doubt it can be removed, though.
