I downloaded a replacement pack of sounds. all kinds of sounds. but i found they are all .SOUND files. this is greaat for putting them in games, but i don't know what they sound like! i was wondering if anyone knows of a program that could just open and play a .SOUND file, or else one that could convert it to something along the lines of an MP3, a .WAV, or something along those lines.

You can play it in Guerilla, or any variant of it. Open the file, scroll all the way down, hit the play button.

Also, for your own references - Audacity can play ogg-encoded .sound files. So can Winamp, I believe.
Oggs are the only ones that can be played and edited outside of Guerilla, however.

what do you know. i have a copy of audacity. i will see about that...
thanks, actually. Audacity did open those files. i just wish more of them were up to standard...
it has a completely custom set of announcement files. but i don't know how good they are.
i wonder how often i can depend on Audacity...

It can edit all OGG .sound files and re-export them as WAV so you can convert them by Tool. It doesn't work with xbox adpcm .sound files though. I'm thinking it needs some sort of plug-in to be able to read those files.
So, in short, it's fairly dependable. Edited by drillinstructor on Sep 5, 2008 at 12:00 AM

well editing and xreating of sound was why i originally got the program, and i don't like how it works for that. Now i might like to (or need to) alter the length of silences in things like reloading sounds. but that i can do. im not THAT limited in my capabilitys.

im good at this stuff
audicity, winamp, and actually several other programs have the ability to open .sound files encoded by ogg, wav, or xbox, you just need the codecs, which are actually rater easy to obtain.

Oh sweet. This is great. I never knew you could actually directly open .SOUND tags. I just tried it now with Audacity.
The only catch is you can only open the first permutation. That should be easily fixed though...

Oh, yeah. If it's any one of the original Halo maps, open it in HMT and extract all the permutations.
