Well sometime in the (not immediate) future, i was planning on coming out with third person weaponry. specifically i was thinking a new flamethrower, and mobile turrets, like from Halo 3 (i got this idea playing on Floodgate yesterday :P ).

Im not worried about really getting help. i don't even want to PLAN on embarking on this without first knowing its possibles.

so i had several ideas, but ive come to think that only one might really work, that is to say, work as i want it to. i literally want it like the Halo 3 versions.

the first part is if a weapon can be set to put the player in a third person view, without being in a vehicle. otherwise, i sppose the idea will work, but it loses its luster.

second, i know that it is possible to have three weapons (coldsnap proves it) but heres something. i only want the player to pick up the weapon when they press E (or whatever button they use) and not automatically get picked up. this is an important one.

the next important one. is it possible that the speed of the player can be slowed when using this weapon? that is important.

i do plan on putting a meele in for the gun. but is it possible that upon switching weapons or trying to throw a grenade the weapon is automatically dropped (and i mean the player no longer has it and it gets thrown to the ground.

the next issue is the ammunition system. i was planning on basing it off of the plasma weapons. but a couple of issues. first, i want it to say Low Fuel or No Fuel and not Low Battery or No Battery. because thats something it does. the second part is picking up spare ammo. i want a maximum of 100 ammo, and no need to reload. but say you have 60 ammunition and a flamethrower on the floor has 50. you walk over in and "Picked up 40 Fuel". then i want the other flamethrower to get picked up by some guy, only to find 10 Fuel in the non replaceable canister. a complex system.

if it will work for the flamethrower, it would just as easily be reproduced into similar guns i would like. mainly Chainguns and a Gauss Rifle.

any information onto if this will work or not would be appreciated.

sounds complex... maybe it could be a vehice, a invisible vehicle just the gun and with different funtions and scripting but argh... that'd be hard

well, open sauce, should it ever come out, is said to be able to manipulate the camera in every way imaginable, so theres your 3p problem solved
there is a field in a weapon tag that is supposed to slow down the player, but im almost certain it doesnt work, so idk what to do there
just tweaking some ammo values so that the thing has no back up ammo would be good
and changing the low battery to low fuel is a simple sequence index change in the hud interface.

well any idea for the other functions of the weapon?

and i thought about making it a vehicle, but i think it would have an ammo problem.

not so i think... because the weapon on a vehicle is the same as a regular weapon so it shjould have ammo counts etc.

im not quite sure of that.

what i am saying is if you fired a bunch of ammunition (as a vehicle) and reached 0 so you could no longer fire. then you got out, and got back in. you would have full ammo.

even if that was not the case, i am sure you could not pick up ammo from one flamethrower *vehicle* for usage in another...
