I have built a small 'loading bay' type level with underground sections.
In the underground areas i have set up five simple square ceiling lights.
I set the power in the shader_transparent_chicago tag to 100 using guerilla and run lightmaps using tool.
My problem is that only one of the lights correctly illuminates the room which it is in, the other four lights seem very dim by comparison.
Is this related to the use of portals, because at the moment I have no portals set up in the map - mainly because I can't get my head round the HEK tutorial.
Do i need to set a portal round each room - which would seem daft as the corridors connecting each lit room are basically small arches and i would expect the light from one room to spill into the next - surely a portal would restrict this - or have i completely misunderstoon the use of portals?

So I'm not the only one who need a good portals tutorial.
I don't think it's the portals. If anything, they let you see things you shouldn't see (light invisible lights in c10). I don't think they restrict lighting. just vision for rendering. But I've never made a custom light shader before. Did you uvw map them all correctly?

um, sorry guys...
Muppetry award for Black Crypt
I had the shader quality set to 'turd' changed it to high in guerilla and hey presto - lighting looking good.
However... how do i make a room dark - it seems the ambient light flows everywhere - even in areas that I would like to be dark. Edited by Black Crypt on Sep 1, 2008 at 03:51 PM
