You select the object or place you want to apply the texture to, and you highlight it in editable mesh, you set the id to what ever number, then when you go to multi/sub object. You should see to the left of all the textures a id number, Change that id number to what id you want the texture to be. Sounds confusing, i know so i will put it in steps for you if easier.

1. Select the object to an editable mesh.
2. Highlight the object with the "Face'' mode.
3. Set an ID.
4. Multi/Sub object.
5. Change id number on a Sub Object.
6. When completed, drag the box with all the textures used to the object. And you should be able to have it.
