Editable Poly can be usefull for certain things, but you should stick with Editable Mesh untill you understand how editable poly works
Instead of applying an Edit Mesh modifier, convert to editable mesh. This is done with a right click in the viewport->convert to->editable mesh
Needs a multi material applied. Multimaterial needs a sub material ("Standard") for each material ID used by the faces in the geometry
Instead of using those 4 objects, make it one object

MINI TUT:
make a box 5x1x1
convert to editable mesh
select all faces and invert
check "ignore backfacing"
lower the middle ground

rails:
edge mode
select the edges on the wall where the rail will be, and make them invisable
select the edges where the rail will be
use chamfer to split those edges a little
poly mode
select the polys you just created with chamfer, and bevel them to create rails

select all and set ID to 1
deselect poly mode
press m
click New
select Multi material
click Apply
select a bitmap texture for sub material ID 1
apply uv mapping to the mesh

When you're done, it should look something like this (+textured):

It needs to be a piece of continuous geometry The plane you used wouldn't work because it has "open edges". The box would work, but not if the rails go thrue the box's walls. And then it would need a multimaterial and uv mapping (texturing)

i havent chechked the links for this forum but i have a problem with gmax and bluestreak
and ive tried it with chimp but same thing happens
it says after bout 1min or so:

runtime error out of scripter memory use options to increase
no idea what to do???
even when i have no buildings or bases in my map and just with the ground
it has never done this before.
i dont need a tut on how to convert to editable mesh i just need to know how to fix this

Look for debug.txt in your CE folder (mine is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition"). Have a look at it. Look for what TOOL is complaining about, and post it. That will tell us what exactly is the problem

03.14.08 19:15:15 couldn't open scenario tag 'tutorial2.scenario'.
03.14.08 19:15:15 need to get the following tags:
03.14.08 19:15:15 levels\test\tutorial\tutorial2.scenario

tutorial2? I'm pretty sure it needs to be the same name as the folder it's in, "tutorial". If you have a "tutorial.scenario" you want to keep, rename it "_tutorial.scenario" or whatever
then rename "tutorial2.scenario" to "tutorial.scenario" and see if that works
