Quote: --- Original message by: spike15 then why cant they make ai sync? Doors have only two states open or closed (on/off). By themselves they do not sync because there is no network code to transfer their state to the server or other clients. However by utilizing a biped kill script (place a biped outside of the level and when the door open drop a hog that kills its) you can transfer the on/off (dead/Alive = open/closed) state to the server and clients. AI, on the other hand, are actor variants and have a nearly infinite number of states: position, alive, dead, ammunition, damage, direction, taunts…etc. There is absolutely no network code or facility in the game to transmit or handle that data. AI therefore run only on the client PC. They may all start in the same position but since AI also respond to stimuli and can make rudimentary decisions they very quickly get out of sync and start doing things on one client that are different than on the other client. Since the data is not sent the server cannot make corrections. People have been beating this horse since Halo CE was released and its now a pile of mushy hide and hooves. AI will NEVER sync in Halo PC, Halo CE or Halo 2 because there is no netcode to handle the data.

halo 3 has syncable ai (ai turrets in that snowlevel)
halo 3 uses an very advanced script that let the turrets sync
but it could be possible if soem1 made an uber good script for it
but that would be to much work adn the halo ce online codes are already messed up so if soem1 would make it it probebly be very laggy but it coukd have sync

I'm curious about that - how do you use the "global function name" in sky tags, and Function in scenario? Edited by bobbysoon on Feb 14, 2008 at 05:53 PM Yes, thinking over my sky plans again now that im finaly off that medication (I will remove that from my avatar quote shortly), I have full thinking capacity.. the acual sky part wont sync, only the sun.. so that means I have to make the acual sky scenery aswell if its gonna sync. (so, lots of design changes lol) Quote: --- Original message by: FLA Spartan 117 So how exactly do you make the doors synh dennis? Can you make a tutorial for it, because it would really help. Search is your friend http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?search=device+syncAnyways, ill get quite abit of work on it over the weekend, anyone have any other spesific things they think I should try to work in? idk how well clouds could work, but ill mess around with some 3d grass to see how well it works (then we'll need to make dynamic grass to wiggle around in the sun :P)

3d grass?! Like...grass you can hide in? Oh wait, that's been done, I remember someone showed a picture of them in it, but you made some comment, and...stuff! Also, Halo is fine as it is, it doesn't need to be like Halo 3, with syncable AI and doors, because it's the fact that it DOESN'T sync those things that makes it unique.

Yes, currently you can use any sky with it, like look at my test, it has no sky lol (yes, thats what the sky looks like if you leave it nulled) but im gonna make a time changing sky to go with it, but I might just make that scenery and tell people to use the default sky of blankness.

Quote: --- Original message by: kenney001 Ive already tried this a few months ago. Problem with dynamic lights is it did create shadows, just light. Howd you get yours to cast shadows?
Anyway, for me it caused a HUGE loss in performance, so I don't see the practicality in this... Hmm.. with what you explained, I see 2 resaults that conflict my testing resaults.. I amsume you ment "Didn't make shadows" since you also said 'just light', but then the lost in preformance.. the didnt make shadows would be the light not updating, but a loss of preformance is over updating in light.. I have my light disaper ever 0.5 seconds, and come out of a effect that recreates it the every 0.5 seconds. since its only once per half a second, I didnt have any lag isues (and nobodys gonna realize if a sun iching alot the sky doesnt change its shadows every half a second lol, after I slow the rate down, I should probly make it per every 1 second so it goes even better for crappy computers)

Is there a requirement that you would need to run this well? A graphics card with some lighting thing or something like that?

If your PC can't handle Halo, it doesn't even need a tall building.

Hopefully I can get something done this weekend (4 day weekend starting tomorow :P) Only reason I see why I wouldnt is if my attention span doesnt recover (I have some realy messed up thing where if I get to bored my attention span diminisihes, and then it usaly takes the full weekend to even slightly recover it, and my attention span died out today at 1:05 PM during english.. english teacher didnt like that I couldnt pay attention to anything for more than 10 seconds lol)
Anyways, I have a test BSP set up, all I need to do is tweek the graphical settings a bit to display bumps best, make some 3d grass to toss in, then release test map. This shouldnt be any problem even with me lowered attention span (thankfully I currently have a attention span of 5 minutes, so I can acleast get something done) I don't think ill have a long enough attention span to make the 3d grass looking good while as optimized as posible, so who ever wants to throw hte model together who is on my Xfire, send me a message and ill send you my 3d grass texture.
What all do you want to see in the test map to have tested with the dynamic sun? even if the grass doesnt look right, it will stay in the test as a record that it doesnt work.

I wonder if controls for doors can keep the door opened for more than 5 seconds:p my friend had tryed it a while ago... the problem was that the door auto-shut after openning instantly. Is there a way to make it so the door remains open for let's say 5 seconds then closes or simply make it ''toggle''. Press to open and press to close.

(device_group_change_only_once_more_set <device_group> <boolean>) can be used to reset a device group after it's been 'changed only once', if i recall correctly
Test... hmmm, something with glass? idk. What's it look like on water?
Also, a syncing idea for yous: To set the animation position for players joining mid-game server drops a 'get ready' signal vehicle a couple seconds later it drops another vehicle <animation position> game ticks later, it drops a 3rd vehicle
when the client's 'get ready' biped gets squished, it sleeps until another biped is squished it notes game ticks elapsed it then waits for the 3rd biped to squish, notes ticks, subtracts, and sets animation position
Make sense? Edited by bobbysoon on Feb 22, 2008 at 07:19 AM

:/ How was I off-topic? I was offering a suggestion to make the lighting the same for all players, so a person who thinks they're in the cover of a shadow is also in shadow on the other player's computers. presuming these would work: (scenery_get_animation_time <scenery>) returns the number of ticks remaining in a custom animation (or zero, if the animation is over).
(scenery_animation_start <scenery> <animation_graph> <string>) starts a custom animation playing on a piece of scenery
(scenery_animation_start_at_frame <scenery> <animation_graph> <string> <short>) starts a custom animation playing on a piece of scenery at a specific frame

I said earlyer that I wasnt caring about syncing for now, AND you ALL know Im capable of scripting things up in a snap.
Anyways, looking at tests, aperantly scenery dont cast shadows dynamicaly...
Why is everyone ignoring what I say?...
