They are different formats. For example: Halo CE uses a checksum to validate the map and uniquely identify it for multiplayer play. The checksum is also comprised of the map file name and the number is imbedded in the map file at time of compile. Halo PC retail does not have this system. There is no need for people to re-compile the single player maps to play them on Halo CE because the maps have already been re-compiled. They are available for download in the Single Player maps section of the main Halo CE website.
