Hello, i am Boberfrank, founder of Fmt (forbidden mapping team) I would like to find some people who are interested in level design for halo but cannot map there selves. Those people are they ones with the great ideas. You wont be actually designing the levels but be in metting and share ideas and changes, then with compromise create a level with insured kickassity. If you are interested, add boberfrank to your friends list on xfire.
Some blah blah messages because writing correct is gai.
The job is basicaly just to have another head add to the idea pot. the mapping team is small and can map fine. its just ideas are lost. i need another opinion in map design that i can listen too rather then some random people saying jack about it " yea.... yea - its good, fun "
hi i'm high
yup, talk to me creative peoples

Theyre all over the place, in fact. Just ask someone you know. That seriously works like 90% of the time. (You may have to talk to a few people though, not everyone has good ideas...errg...'Can you make bloodgulch but with nukes!?')

OH! yes! Awesome idea! Do it underwater base-style. As in, you cant go outside (obviously, halo physics doesnt support actual water) but the map is inside of an underwater base, and you can see out through windows...etc... That will give a halo map a whole new feel to it!

That will give a halo map a whole new feel to it! like a giant fish tank map sort of thing. or like an underwater base type thing like in the abyss movie. an underwater station sort of deal. you could just make viewports and stick images on deep water fish on them so it looks like your looking out into water. and thus taking the need for water totally out.

Pouring water effect, bsp switch to splashy bsp, maybe a couple bsp switches for rising water, and then there you got a vast ocean to explore just outside the destroted porthole Edited by bobbysoon on Nov 23, 2007 at 05:04 AM

Here is a design for a map I wanted to make. However I would like to see it done well and my bsp modeling skills are very poor so as you are asking for ideas I decided to show you. It is an island map, the yellow is beaches and the other shores of the island are cliffs. The center of the Island is a hill with some doors in the side which lead to underground forerunner corridors. One room is on two levels with stairs leading to the other level. Part way up the central hill is a large lake with structures and cable car things very like in the lake in HALO 2 Delta Halo and (I think) Regret levels. The cable cars lead from the shore to one structure and once you have gone through that structure another leads to the next structure and so on. I think the cable cars would have to be device machines. The interior of the last structure on the lake is the HALO control center from the standard HALO 1 campain. There are also Death Island style bases, one on each side of the U-shaped bay. I hope you can understand the picture as it was made while I was at college to help remind me of the more detailed ideas as I already had the basic idea in my head. nice. If only i could plan like that. I'm no forrunner architect, but I could start you off with a terrain based on that pic ... (*right-clicks image...*)

Whats the small, light blue part in the middle? A different elevation from the gray, or water? also, it'd help if the black and yellow areas were gray shaded by elevation. I'll start on the underground, if no one else has already Edited by bobbysoon on Dec 3, 2007 at 07:59 PM on second thought, I'll leave the forrunner underground designs to someone more qualified, but I'll make a bsp with the cliffs, lake, and beaches, just post a gray scale and I'll tesselate and displace it into a bsp Edited by bobbysoon on Dec 3, 2007 at 10:54 PM

I tried to make a bigger picture: http://img119.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dalekislandmaplargervesui0.png so you could see the key better but it doesn't appear to be showing up. Inside the hill the corridors on the upper-level are coloured grey and the corridors on the lower-level are light blue. The room where the two meet has a narrow walkway along two sides conecting the two upper-level coridors together and stairs (or a ramp if that is more like Forerunner arcitecture) leading down to the lower level. The only water in the map is the sea and the lake. The Death Island style bases are meant to have somthing to do with powering the cable cars, so I was thinking they could have Infinity beam emiters on top or somthing. I will try and make a greyscale version for you, when I try and make maps that way though I end up with too many faces.

That's the rough idea. The slopes aren't meant to be vertical though, well most of them aren't.
The cliff parts should be vertical but most of the rest is meant to be a nice gradual slope you can climb up except the highest bit in the middle which is too steep to climb and has the doors into the inside of the hill in it. What you have there though is about as much as I could make myself. I am better at weapons and maybe sructures though, because they are smaller and don't have to look natural and smooth.

then I should relax the single steps, and maybe some double steps, to make them slope, but leave the triples and maybe doubles as cliffs, and then tesselate and z-noise for hills I traced a cutout of the underground. I'll line up the openings to the surface and set room elevations, extrude walls and close it, then hand it over to you for detailing. How does that sound?
