I for one think it looks pretty good but there are some things different. For one the base at the back there isnt a little ledge fora banshee. It sits on the ground. Also dont reply saying it looks horrid if you never made a map or made a somewhat decent one. Edited by Nexus Halo on Oct 21, 2007 at 11:13 PM

*Clears Throat* I may have been spending too much time at H2V, so forgive me.
The only good thing about the model are the bases, and they aren't even yours. You used the Outline tool, held shift, and then used the scale tool. Whoop-dee-doo. Then used cut on the river, which isn't very accurate at all. Not only that, the bases LOOK nice, but they aren't supposed to be Valhalla's bases, and, as such, they don't look like Valhalla's bases. Plus I spy smoothing errors that are going to be a pain in the donkey to fix.[/rant]
Oh, and use more grammar, kthxbye.

I think the design shows promise and in my opinion it should NOT look exactly like the Halo 3 level but be inspired by it. What I mean is that it is OK to have different styled base designs, or a different styled wall and the layout need not be exact but instead balanced for the weapon set and vehicles you are going to use. Be creative not a copycat. Remember that one of the features of the halo 3 level is the man-cannon which has a physics function unsuitable for the Halo 1 game engine sure you can fake it but it will never work properly as it does in H3. So account for that fact and change the design a bit to be more H1 friendly.

A good H3 Valhalla is not possible. Trust me, I've been trying for months. The Halo 1 engine, as Almighty Dennis said, Cannot support most of the things in Halo 3 anyway. Even if the model was perfect, It would lag alot ingame and gameplay would be nearly impossible. I had a nearly perfect model and tags for everything were as perfect as possible, I got it ingame and gameplay was nearly impossible. I couldn't even hit anyone. If you want the model You can have it, just ask. Fuzzy has spoken. post pics.

If I recall, he said he barely learned to model. So far, compared to asgard <which probably had more than 1 person making it> it's going fine. Besides, he's TRYING to get your help not your obviously dimwitted opinions. Seeing as "phails" is spelled as "fails." I'd have to agree that it needs :work: but honestly in order to do anything so that it is good, that's always what it's going to take. Consider that he isn't just rushing everything and he's asking for help, perhaps one of you can find the effort he's putting in this and HELP him out. Personally, I couldn't help him, mainly because I've never attempted something THIS custom. As for myself I might suggest rounding some things out, for example the river area's floor <a bit too triangular don't you think?> and the halo 1 boulders is actually proof that you were <listening> to dennis. So far, so good. Please keep working at it.

I wasn't saying that you... Oh my <i wish I COULD say the F-word right now> God. Look maybe if you take a look at ALL of what I said as opposed to assuming what I said was "You should say it owns..-" because that's FAR from what I was trying to say. I was saying to shut up and give him some ideal "critisim" as oppose to being a lump on a log and sitting there claiming everything you're saying is intelligent. By the way, "Learn To model, you're map phails." is hardly helpful, and is rather a stupid thing to say, obviously it seems he can model. So shutup and listen to what I'm REALLY saying.

Don't try to make this map high detailed, it may blow up the Halo1 engine. Oh yeah, practice a little bit more on modeling and you'll be making good maps in no time. Though I shouldn't be saying that because I can't model for ****.

As said by Dennis: Quote: --- Original message by: Dennis I think the design shows promise and in my opinion it should NOT look exactly like the Halo 3 level but be inspired by it. What I mean is that it is OK to have different styled base designs, or a different styled wall and the layout need not be exact but instead balanced for the weapon set and vehicles you are going to use. Be creative not a copycat. All of those fit Asgard and I agree. Grunt, I'm going against you here. You guys need to get more organized. Why do an 'exact' copy of a Halo 3 course when you can make something like Asgard and then say to people playing Halo 3:"Haha! I'm playing something you'll never be able to play!" Instead of just copying what they already have. Why bother? Yes, it's expensive but I'd rather try to buy it than play a crappy copy of it. Asgard perfectly demonstrates this. So what if you let them do 'Valhalla' (Asgard) and someone else make a map bases of Snowbound, and any other bases. I leave you with this: Quote: --- Original message by: Dennis So account for that fact and change the design a bit to be more H1 friendly.

An exact replica of valhalla would blow up most computers or give players fps lag. ya.. it looks alot more like that bodily function I had last night in the bathroom.. you could make valhalla look preaty identical with fine FPS, its just you couldnt make the bumpmaps always show (to do that, you'd need a dynamic light over the level instead of a lightmap, it would make it alot more like H2 and 3, but it would be lag land. its hte only thing you'd have to sacrifice in replication.)

You know what it's become obvious that you don't listen well. Maybe you find what I have to say insignificant, or whatever. Otherwise you clearly don't <understand> what I'm trying to say. So, basically:
1. He's new to modelling, attempting to do something that other people are afraid of being <smack-talked?> if they mess up.
2. I'm telling you to give him useful information as oppose to tell him to find a tutorial because I know for a fact, that there are few tutorials on this site that explain thoroughly. <I personally taught myself how to make maps>
3.He was not going to use those bases as he said in a previous post, because many people were <upset?> :/ cry then. And besides define "badly done models" because honestly most of the ones I've seen are pretty bad and people don't get so worked up about it.
4. Asgard sucked, only because you could tell so little effort was put into it, the scale was too small etc.
5. Learn to listen. Finally: If he can get the basic shape and everything my point is it looks like it could become a pretty decent map. Perhaps he will be the first to put some background stuff instead of just bitmaps. <a nice little mountain or something>

Seeing as there seems to be debate over what constructive criticism is, I have taken the liberty to look it up on Wikipedia, and here is what I found: Quote: Constructive criticism is a form of communication in which a person tries to correct the behavior of another in a non-authoritarian way, and is generally, a diplomatic approach about what another person is doing socially incorrect. It is 'constructive' as opposed to a command or an insult and is meant as a peaceful and benevolent approach. Participatory learning in pedagogy is based on these principles of constructive criticism.
Constructive criticism is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others with the intention of helping the reader or the artist, rather than creating an oppositional attitude. An art critic can also be a champion of a new artistic movement in the face of a hostile public (e.g. John Ruskin), using scholarship and insight to show the value and depth of a new style. Critics might even champion a wholly new art medium; for instance the century-long critical struggle to have photography recognised as a valid art form.
There can be a tension between constructive and useful criticism; for instance, a critic might usefully help an individual artist to recognise what is poor or slapdash in their body of work - but the critic may have to appear harsh and judgemental in order to achieve this.
