Ok, so I can make AI, get them to move around randomly etc etc, and i did a tutorial ("Better AI part 1") about making them follow command lists...anyways I have done everything in the tutorial, as it said, and my AI will not even follow the most basic of commands!!! eg, I make an encounter, then a squad, with elites and then a command list telling them to move to a point, and NOTHING happens. they dont get in vehicles either. HELPHELPHELPHELP. I think the problem is they havent been properly 'assigned' the command list, but I did what it said in the tutorial and went to their spawn points, and assigned them a command list...
wait
ok, I just went to the command lists, and unchecked 'allow initiative', and i closed\opened Sapien, and now they do what theyre meant to (yay). BUT in the tutorial this is checked and i want to know WHY they werent doing what they were told when these were checked. also, if i want them moving to a certain spot in a battle, i want them to be able to continue and whatever they do when initiative is allowed...so help. even though i partially fixed the problem.
...long post there...
EDIT
ok, so its like half an hour later now, and ai (command lists) are working on the map i used to test them, but are now not working in another map, for NO REASON. this is weird. Edited by Hickle Stine on Oct 10, 2007 at 08:14 AM

Edited by Hickle Stine on Oct 10, 2007 at 08:14 AM Yes the initative thing can not be checked in the tut when it was, it was a mistake the maker over looked but them fixed to show the ai moving. It's been awhile but one of the commands in the command list selection box has something like moving while shooting. Again that may not be the right name but you will know it when you see it. Just look around in the command lists for a bit. also you don't have to have respawn enabled, if you don't the AI won't show in sapien but will in game. So i keep respawn enabled while placeing AI, turn it off, save and then compile cache file.

I've always wondered about that. What exactly IS the initiative option there for? Does it only work with certain commands or something? From what I see it hinders the execution of most commands. Edited by drillinstructor on Oct 10, 2007 at 05:48 PM

Edited by drillinstructor on Oct 10, 2007 at 05:48 PM maybe it was something left over from the xbox halo that did not work in PC or maybe it's something they froze for the HEK. but either way it don't matter. the allow is also in the comand list selection box but it don't work either just don't check it

ok Iv worked it out. Basically checking the initative box makes them not follow the command list, targeting makes them follow it but they can stop temporarily to shoot at enemies etc. Ok, now what you can do is at the end of the command list put an 'initiative' command and set it to 'enable' which basically stops them running the command list; they just move randomly or whatever. As for the AI sometimes just not working at all, I generally just check that everything is right, and if it is, I close/open Sapien, or sometimes you hav to uncheck 'allow targeting' and then refresh sapien and it works, then you re check it and refresh sapien again. anyways, once you get Ai working, its fun fun fun!
