I figured there'd be a need for this, to cut down on the amount of CMT topics.

Here's to start you off, the new brutes.

Both are WIP, meaning NOT DONE.

The brutes look nice... I just hope they're animated like brutes... One video I saw of them kinda made them look weird to me...

Dano did the texturs. Holy Alliance is working on the anims. He's been using a motion capture studio for the brute anims.

being that this is a WIP, i really can't complain too much about the things i see wrong...

can you list the things you guys still need to do to the brutes?

Obviously they still need to texture some parts, and they said (I don't know who) but someone is working on the animations.

Some brutes have light hair while some are dark brown (Kiwi thinks it indicated rank in Halo 2)

Dano needs to learn that though the rough texture works well on guns (the slightly pocketed effect) it doesn't work so well on organic things :/

Teh Lag's re-animated the old brute twice, It doesn't take long by hand, only a few days for him, but we wanted to try mocap.

Yeah, the textures aren't done, Jay. Hence the "WIP" part.

Those OLD pics masterz linked were two days work when I rendered them.

Jays head is basically a balloon.

I believe that summarizes my head right there. A circle with nothing in it.

Well, actually, there is something in it, I have heightened smarts and reflexes, but at the cost of strength and common sense. So I do stuff without thinking.

bit of an update.

Unwrapping all those different armour permutations is LIQUIDDEATHSUICIDE
Edited by D4NO on Sep 3, 2007 at 05:24 AM

Btw, you'll notice the bump maps on the left side of the brute are inverted. This is because of mirroring. Game engines are smart though, and don't do this ingame. They flip the normals.

The CE version will be fakebumped, the renders are more close to what would be in H2V.
Edited by D4NO on Sep 3, 2007 at 05:26 AM

Also, this is extremely basic, 4 days work. I'm stil yet to do the hands, finish the inside of the mouth, and touch up detailing the body wiht veins and stuff.

After the brutes body is done, I'll get on to skinning the armour plates.

body bump map so far

body diffuse so far

for an example of the quality of the bitmaps. Again, 4 days work.

also lul at the temporary hair texture :PPPPPPP

was an old woodgrain custom brush pattern I made, just a placeholder for now.

I was going to say that it looked like wood...
Also, why do you need bump maps, doesn't Halo only allow bump maps for .shader_environments, or did Kornman make something I don't know about?

I make bump maps first always. This gives me things to use for rendering later, and bump maps can be used with PS's lighting effects to fakebump a skin. I also make specular maps and stuff and then convert them to multipurposes. Proper ones.

The real time bump mapped version is saved for rendering and halo 2 vista, and the CE version that will be in SPv2 wil be fakebumped, quite close in quality, just not real time rendered displacement.

Ah, I see. I have Photoshop CS2, and I can't even make a good bitmap with it, and I have no idea how to even do a fake bumpmap or multipurpose, lol.
