I have recently been working on a Halo 3 style Assault Rifle. It's still in the very early stage, but I thought I might give some eye candy. All of the modeling and everything to come is made by myself. I made this for a map I will be releasing soon, so some helpful criticism would be appreciated.

that MA5C fails to meet the imitation of halo 3. the one geek is doing looks like it will be much better

The reason the barrel is longer is because the ma5c AR is meant to be more accurate.

I already have the reload anim done and it looks quite nice. I'm just having problems with the compass and ammo display on the gun.

Ok I have the bitmaps now and they work and look good. Now I just need to figure out how to tag them to the gun so the compass shows the direction, and the numbers display the ammo. Any help would be appreciated.

ive got some pretty good ma5c tags. i didnt make em though, and they use d4n0s bitmaps. so yeah the credit is pretty widespread on them.

i'll start with the beginning,
first,open your .weapons tag,scroll down to FUNCTIONS and click the add button,if there are no previous functions,this new one will be called A out,type something memorable in the usage box like ammo display
you want to set the scale of this function to A in,or whatever your ammo's functions had,
scroll down until you find EXPORT TO FUNCTIONS,click the drop down menu next to A in
and select primary ammunition.
to display the numbers on the ammo counter,you should create a bitmapthat contains all the
digits,just create a new bitmap that is exactly 651 pixels wide and 66 high,make it blue255,and
then in that,make 10 64x64 bitmaps which have the digits starting from 0-9,0 on the left,and
9 on the far right,dont make any botmaps touch each other(duh,lol) now run through tool
make a new .shader_transparent_chicago,set the numeric counter limit to the bullets,
(32,i guess,since its the H3 AR)and check numeric and decal.Add a new bitmap under maps
section and set your made bitmap to optional.then check "doesnt fade active cammoflage.
(with this checked,you can still see the numbers even with cammo on)
in your weapons model,create some new materials.(technically,you will make new submaterials under your main material or use empty submaterials)
the first will be the new bitmap(and shader's name) you made.
It will be uv's to a bitmap that is 64x64(individual diget)This will be where the ones digit is
placed if the counter is 2-digits,Add another material called (shader's name)1,the one tells it to be the second shader permutation,which in this case,is the 10s digit.
and if you want 3 digits,you would have to make it (shader's name)3

when you compile the model again,the numeric account will work with A out,then your done
yay :)
i should make tutorials,its a shame i dont know how to make a compass though
I understand how to make the bitmap, and the shader, but everything else was unknown (well I kinda knew), thank you so much. Now I can make the compass work with the mini-tut you gave me.

If this can extract the 3d models in HALO 2 Vista sombody with HALO 2 Vista should use it to get the campain bsps for us to use in HALO Custom Edition.

EDIT: Nice Assault Rifles by the way, both of them.

What is the difference between the HALO 1 MA5B model and the HALO 3 MA5C model though? I mean apart from being more detailed as it would be in HALO 3
