Agreed, and I was thinking maybe see how it looks with the butt end on a separate smoothing group. Looks too rounded at the end.

What type of weapon is this? Looks like human plasma but that is just guessing from the muzzle area

Dude! That is pretty wicked! When you think you will have it textured or do you have more detail to do first in the model?

Jpeg loses more detail than the PNG.

...And do you really need that kind of detail for a render of a WIP model?

I can't play any of the new MPG3 maps without getting 10 fps, and that's with everything on low and off. You don't see them making maps that fit my computer's ability.

Excuse me, but I am going university to study game design in september. I have got 4 A's at a level standard in my ICT course... I do know...

PNG has lossless image compression. It saves millions of colours which are not needed to be saved and it saves every single pixel in the file.

Whereas jpg does not save every single pixel so the file size is half the size. It also does not save every single colour which is not needed...

The human eye cannot see half of the colours which are stored in PNG files.. so there is NO reason at all to use this file type. All it does is slows down peoples page load time. And not everyone is on broadband...
Using JPG files is good practice as PNG files are not needed... So use JPG.

______________________________

Also, could of had another render ready but scene decided to corrupt so I have got to revert to an older save....

Fail, the image is saved as PNG
Also it depends what program saves the JPG, if it MSPaint, then it WILL lose quality. If its from 3ds Max or Photoshop, then you can adjust the quality, in which you can save in very high.

As Advancebo said, yeah.

You can save your render directly out to a .jpeg and it looks fine.

JPG is fine as long as you don't save it in paint. If you save it in Photoshop or Max, it is fine and like 10 times less file size than png.

GIF files only support up to 256 colours, you lower the amount of colours to compress the image. The compression in GIF's is also a bit similar to JPEG as lets say there was a row of pixels which where blue.

It would just save the two blue colours from the start and end and then guess the colours between that.

Although this is a bit off-topic the main difference between JPG and PNG is that for the same color depth JPG format is uses a lossy compression and PNG does not. Lossy compression creates smaller files by discarding some information about the original image. That is why jpg files are smaller. Gif is only capable of 256 color depth and does not have any loss in its compression scheme. PNG uses a lossless compression scheme and has essentially the same color depth as jpg files. For more detailed information about the pros and cons of each see:

http://www.ou.edu/class/digitalmedia/articles/CompressionMethods_Gif_Jpeg_PNG.html

And now this should end the off topic issue of PNG vrs JPG and you can get back on topic.

I never fail to be astounded by the lack of understanding or obvious lack of respect.

Stay on topic.

There were probably better ways to spend an hour, but here it is. After painstakingly recompiling multiple times because someone rigged their br weird, it's done.

The silencer is kind of big (better not just be the ODST one unscaled >_>), and makes it seem like the weapon wouldn't be as accurate.

Edit: Read youtube comments. wtf, scale the silencer to be smaller or something.
