use 7z or winrar and extract it i mean the installer copy it the c:program files/microsoft games rename it as "Halo Custome Edition" than try the patch if patch work it will be okay but i'm not sure it will work as i think but try maybe it will work and again not sure

You need to be more specific, what errors are you getting? 1st delete the portable and try to install now (i think that u have original installation with valid CD keys)
