Some interesting replies coming through. Glad to see I'm not the only one with a preference for vanilla/close-to-vanilla. Regarding teamwork, I know that my favorite halo pc matches were always with friends who could collaborate with me via teamspeak.
With the original halo pc, there were many unplayed maps I felt. Even still there seems to remain a big focus on a few of the classic maps.
While I have only experienced a fraction of the custom maps that are out there, I would say that I prefer the classic maps myself. I am sure there are a few out there that I should play with though. I am sure that with some time spent testing, a good mapcycle with certain gametypes and settings could be perfected.
I have a group of people put together who are working on bringing at least one server together. Hopefully we can even host multiple servers. We are planning to have some organized community game nights, anywhere from 1 to 4 per month. (Given real life commitments I think we could reasonably plan for at least 1 per month)
I appreciate your insight and will keep everyone posted about our progress. If you have any more thoughts to share please do so!
Thanks for the replies everyone. The only anticheat I'm aware of so far is SAPP. Are there any others? Which one is the best? (I haven't been in the Halo CE server hosting scene since 2009, and needless to say, a lot has changed)
Can you describe what no-lead means exactly? I know it has to do with anticheat but what is it referring to?
*What makes a Halo CE server fun for you
Hi all,
Long time Halo PC/CE fan here. I would like to poll the community regarding the different variables that allow them to enjoy a halo server.
What weapon settings do you like? Do you prefer infinite nades or limited? What about shields, do you prefer shields or none? Spawning with heavy weapons, snipers, or standard vanilla weapon loadouts?
Do you enjoy slayer, CTF, or a mix of different modes all on the same server?
Personally, I do like to mix things up, but I prefer mostly vanilla settings. I think I would enjoy a server that has different gametypes, maps, and weapon loadouts all within one single mapcycle.
For instance, I think a good server might use shotguns only for hang 'em high, but the next time the map comes through on the cycle, it could be set to vanilla loadouts. To me, it could be fun to have things switch in minor ways every now and then throughout the mapcycle.
